Unveiling the Mystery of the Altar
The concept of the altar is deeply rooted in the Bible, with the word "altar" mentioned 364 times. Altars were raised unto God as a symbol of worship, sacrifice, and covenant. However, over time, the concept of the altar has been misconstrued, and its original significance has been lost.
As someone who has experienced the impact of ancestral altars firsthand, I have come to realize the importance of understanding this concept. Ignorance is not an excuse, as the consequences of neglecting the altar can be far-reaching, determining the destiny of individuals, families, and nations.
The Significance of Altars
Altars are not just physical structures; they represent a spiritual gateway, a point of connection between heaven and earth. Covenants, sacrifices, and worship are all established on altars, and these actions have binding consequences.
Types of Altars
There are various types of altars, each with its unique significance and purpose:
1. Personal Altars: These are individual altars, raised by individuals for personal worship, prayer, and sacrifice.
2. Family Altars: These altars represent the spiritual foundation of a family, where family members come together to worship, pray, and make sacrifices.
3. Fellowship Altars: These altars are raised in communal settings, such as churches or community gatherings, where people come together to worship and pray.
4. National Altars: These altars represent the spiritual foundation of a nation, where leaders and citizens come together to worship, pray, and make sacrifices for the nation.
5. Continental Altars: These altars represent the spiritual foundation of a continent, where leaders and citizens come together to worship, pray, and make sacrifices for the continent.
The Africa Altar
In 2022, I was honored to play a pivotal role in raising the Africa Altar at the source of the Nile in Uganda. This historic event brought together:
- Africans from across the continent
- Americans representing the lost children of Africa
- Representatives from 10 nations
Together, we raised the Africa Altar, establishing a spiritual gateway for the continent. This altar represents:
- A new era of spiritual awakening and transformation for Africa
- A symbol of covenant and worship, establishing a new relationship between God and Africa
- A point of connection for African leaders, citizens, and diaspora communities to come together in prayer, worship, and sacrifice
Key Verse: Isaiah 19:19-20
"In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt [Africa], and a pillar to the Lord at its border. And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt [Africa]; for they will cry to the Lord because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them."
This verse serves as a prophetic declaration of the Africa Altar, symbolizing a turning point for Africa. It marks the beginning of a new era of spiritual awakening, transformation, and deliverance for the continent.
